At HPS, Remanufacturing Lowers Price AND Wait Time - But Not Quality

We all know that every part in a fluid power system will face the need to be repaired or replaced at some point in the future.

When that time comes, however, is the market really aware of all the options?

What is there besides OE?

Which are the most cost-conscious?

If they’re not OE, which can be relied upon for the same performance as OE?

Can quality be preserved at a lower price point?

When will this be shipped to me?

How long will my system be down if I have to wait for a part to come in?

These are just a few of the questions that should be considered when determining the replacement option that works best for a company’s hydraulic equipment needs.

When distributors look to the marketplace to replace broken, worn, or dysfunctional parts, they have two options:
  1. Original equipment (OE)
  2. Remanufactured units
OE parts come right from the original manufacturer. For example, a Denison pump comes from the Parker Denison hydraulics manufacturing facility, and no part of it has never been hooked up and used on a hydraulic system.

Remanufacturing (which is slightly different than “refurbished”, “rebuilt”, or “reconditioned”) refers to the process of bringing equipment back to a usable state from some other state. That’s what Hydraulic Parts Source specializes in – the remanufacture of Vickers hydraulics, Denison hydraulics, Rexroth A10VSO series hydraulics, and Servo and Proportional valves.

If you are looking for a third option, there are also aftermarket units. These parts are made by a company who is not the original manufacturer for use as a substitution of OE parts. At HPS, remanufacturing never includes aftermarket units, which are lower-cost parts that often have shaky quality records.

In fact, our remanufacturing process keeps prices and delivery times well below those of new equipment, but provides quality that meets or exceeds Original Equipment standards.

Remanufacturing: Quality by Re-using Original Equipment

Manufacturers of top brands of fluid power products, which we call Original Equipment Manufacturers (“OEM” or “OE”), put years of research and millions of dollars into developing their products. Their goal is to ensure their products perform at the highest level and stay competitive versus similar products from other brands.

While the quality of OE products are generally thought to be the best of all available options, buying OE parts can be pricey. Also, if delivery lead times are weeks in length, and your system is down, lost production can be costly.

That’s where remanufacturing steps in as not only the best alternative – but the best option all around.

At Hydraulic Parts Source, a leading remanufacturing company, original equipment parts are brought back to high-performing condition. Our goal is to create units that exceed OE specifications.

The cost difference is remarkable. HPS remanufactured units cost significantly less than new items, sometimes as much as 75 percent less.

Once rebuilt, we rigorously test remanufactured products on our state-of the-art test stands to ensure they meet OE specifications so that we know they are going to perform for our customers.

Roots of Remanufacturing

Remanufacturing has been evolving in the fluid power industry since the 1990s, when quality expectations rose. This change sparked a shift from refurbishing and rebuilding to remanufacturing.

Here is how each process works:

  • Refurbished products are tuned-up, but broken or dysfunctional parts are not replaced
  • Rebuilt products are recovered by inspecting, cleaning, and replacing parts that are worn or broken, but isn't as comprehensive as remanufacturing and often results in a shorter lifespan
  • Remanufactured products include these processes, but is more comprehensive and returns each component to manufacturer standards
As time passed, equipment became more affordable and available, prompting many companies to shift from refurbishing and rebuilding to remanufacturing.

HPS is no exception. We are known for the quality of our remanufacturing process, in which we:

  • Take in complete hydraulic pumps, motors and valves and dismantle them
  • Scrap the inferior parts and send the quality parts to our remanufacturing department
  • Clean, strip, resurface and reshape them, then keep these renewed parts in our inventory to create new units the moment a customer places an order (we also sell parts individually should the need arise)
The result is high-quality, good-as-new products built on-demand for our customers at a fraction of the cost of OE-built products.

A True Savings

At HPS, rather than adding a new part to an old unit and rebuilding it, we use our vast inventory of OEM-standard-exceeding parts to create new unit that performs at a higher quality standard than the original specifications.

We inspect and test our remanufactured parts to ensure they adhere to original equipment specifications.

Our confidence in the quality of our hydraulic products allows us to ship all HPS units with a full-year warranty, matching the protection manufacturers offer.
