Our Products: Rexroth Moves from Humble Beginnings to Worldwide Success

Hydraulic Parts Source specializes in four product lines: Vickers, Denison, the Rexroth A10VSO series, and Servo and Proportional valves.

In our previous articles in this series, we discussed the Denison and Vickers product lines and why we choose to carry them. Their versatility, longevity, and reputation for quality are welcome among our inventory of more than 2 million hydraulic parts.

Continuing the conversation about great quality products, we move to our top-rated pressure-compensated piston pumps from the Bosch-Rexroth Group.

Rexroth is known for its high productivity, adaptable components, and high precision.

Due to growing demand, Hydraulics Parts Source not only offers Bosch-Rexroth’s popular A10VSO series piston pumps, but repair services on Proportional valves, and the SYDFEE series using the A10VSO DFEE proportional controls, as well.

Who is Rexroth?

Rexroth Hydraulics are part of the Bosch-Rexroth group, a multi-national engineering and technology company headquartered in Gerlingen, Germany. Bosch-Rexroth offers global assistance in factory automation, machinery applications, engineering, and mobile applications.

Founded by Robert Bosch in 1886, the Automation Technology Business Unit of Robert Bosch GmbH merged with Mannesmann Rexroth AG in 2001 and is wholly owned subsidiary of Robert Bosch GmbH.

The Rexroth name itself originated from man that built a water-powered hammer mill in 1795; inventor Georg Ludwig Rexroth, with his own interesting story of hydraulic innovations that impacted the lives of many communities.

Today, Bosch-Rexroth employs more than 31,000 people worldwide, with annual revenues of more than $5.5 billion.

Rexroth particularly offers a wealth of knowledge in:

  • Assembly technology
  • Electric drives and controls
  • Industrial Hydraulics
  • Linear motion technology
  • Mobile hydraulics, electronics and IoT
In fact, Rexroth has a long history of being technically advanced in the hydraulics industry before becoming part of the global Bosch-Rexroth collaboration.

A Global Leader in Technology

After Rexroth’s water-powered hammer mill was built in 1795, his family’s holdings grew to include an iron foundry in Lohr am Main, Germany, before entering the hydraulics market in the 1950s under the leadership of his descendant, also named Georg Ludwig Rexroth.

The Rexroth name advanced with the times to become a global leader in hydraulic technology because of the latter’s Rexroth’s leadership of the company. He became a shareholder in the family company in 1933, and lead it through troubling times after their factory was almost completely destroyed in WWII.

Becoming fascinated with American machine technology that was unknown in Germany, he sent an engineer to America to study hydraulic systems and engineering, which forged the path that resulted in the Rexroth Hydraulics we know today.

Let’s take a look at Rexroth through the last century:

  • 1965-1995: The company expands with electrical drives and controls, axial piston pumps and motors, linear and assembly technologies, as well as develops into a full provider of industrial and mobile hydraulics
  • 1996-2000: Rexroth develops multi-technological solutions with semi-conductors and software for all technologies
  • 2001-2016: The merger of Mannesmann Rexroth with Bosch Automations Technik makes the company a global leader
  • 2017-2022: Bosch Rexroth continues to make a digital transformation with Connected Hydraulics and Transforming Mobile Machines
The Rexroth Corporation’s American branch opened in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania in 1967, when it began importing German-made hydraulic equipment. In 1975, Rexroth began to produce some valves in America. By 1979, brushless AC servo motors were introduced, followed by electric drives and controls for future Rexroth lines.
